Customer Reviews and Description This is a fine little guide. It's close to the perfect field guide on this under-treated subject--physically small, light and reasonably complete. If your nature rambles don't stop when it gets cold, you should consider this little volume.

Customer Reviews and Description Being an architect already, I found that the book was an excellent introduction, even for me, to the various alternative building techniques emerging. It gave the author's honest opinion about many of the techniques, which was very appreciated. Don't expect it to be a precise how-to guide for any of the methods. It is an excellent overview, though, that can help you evaluate which building techniques you would like to explore further. The references at the end are vast and helpful.

Customer Reviews and Description I was looking to get up to speed to teach an intro bio class for community college. After reviewing bio texts, I bought this book thinking that it would be a great summary, review and offer quiz questions for bio. I wanted it to be to the point, revelant, and a pithy supplement. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. This book didn't highlight or sum up bio. It went into in-depth discussions that might be of interest to grad students. I looked at Biology the Easy Way and liked it much better.

Customer Reviews and Description I'm very much a nature lover. When this book arrived, I saw the small size (about 6" x 4") I felt a little dissappointed. I thought at least it would be something 'cute' for my kids, but would be far too basic for me.

Customer Reviews and Description This book will take you on emotional journeys you will likely never go on during your lifetime. It is the most beautiful story of friendship and love ... and teaches what caring about another creature is really all about. If you have ever been close to any living creature (2-legged; 4-legged or other), you will fall in love with Modoc. Keep a full box of kleenex at your side, for you can't be human and not spill tears of joy and strife.

Customer Reviews and Description An amazing book of beautiful, thought provoking pictures that swirl the mind. No negative critiques other than the fact that the book should have been published in a large "coffee table book" size. I think a huge disservice was done to both the quality and content of these photos to have them published in a 6.5" x 7" format.

Customer Reviews and Description I've been reading this book in bits and pieces for the past six months now and I love it. It's beautifully laid out with plenty of graphics, illustrations and photographs to enhance the text. It's the earth science book you never had in school, just without the chapter reviews and questions at the end. In fact, I feel like I retain and get more out of this book than I ever did with school text. It's a good general overview of the Earth without dumbing it down, but still manages to be clear and well written. I would recommend ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description This book has excellent illustrations to help learn knots. There is a brief text instruction for every knot in the book. I think the text instructions are somewhat lacking, but the fine illustrations more than make up for it. The text also gives some information on what each knot would typically be used for, which is very helpful. The book goes into great detail on fishing knots (ie tying a very large hook to a rope) which I find annoying, but could be very helpful for a deep sea fisherman.

Customer Reviews and Description For a fan of Hockey, Dryden's book provides a fascinating inside look at the life of a prefessional NHL team even though the 70's were a much different era in Hockey and sports in general. Detailing not just game highlights and statistics but really concentrating on the day to day travel and practice grind, the book really get's inside the dynamics of a great team.
