Customer Reviews and Description Man oh man - Susan Johnson seems as if she's getting bored with her own writing career, if this book is any indication. The story read like a clicheed chick lit book (which I despise, by the way), and the sex scenes were absolutely bloodless. There was no real emotional development between the characters (or really any development of the characters themselves), who basically flopped into the figurative bed and went at it like robots. I was a fan of hers up to a a few years ago (her earlier books, ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description The depiction of Native Canadian Cree Indians turned World War I soldiers Xavier Bird and Elijah Whiskeyjack, is a haunting and enticing story. The story weaves between that of Xavier's Aunt Niska, an old Cree Indian living as her ancestors did, in the woods, hunting, divining, and fulfilling her spiritually duty as a killer of cannibals, and the trench warfare of WWI as Xavier and his friend Elijah are join the ranks of the white Canadians and Europeans. Readers are easily pulled into the tales ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description This book is full of ideas that appeal to the masses as lots of people could relate to them. In this way the book should be enjoyed by the majority of readers, however the novel is not particularly well worded, and it is a great stereotype of the modern day America. Vernon God Little is a book that seems to delve into the beliefs of the majority but comes up short, only commenting on the views of the closed minded!

Customer Reviews and Description I just finished reading "We Need to Talk about Kevin" and had to fight an instinct to look for an article on Kevin and Eva on the Internet. That's how real this book is. The clarity of the author's voice, the progression of events and the tone of the novel are structured so perfectly that it's almost as though you are reading someone's long ago abandoned diary with yellowed pages. What makes this book so powerful is that it unflinchingly takes you to a dark place and confront the painful and, yes, helpless ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description This is still an excellent intro to the subject, though some of the material is obsolete, of course. Since it was written the definition of the constant c has changed from "velocity of light" to "speed of light". Velocity includes direction and speed does not, so the "problem" Einstein had to address in chapter XXII no longer exists. The velocity of light changes direction due to the bending of light by gravity in General Relativity, but the speed of light, c, remains constant.

Customer Reviews and Description I'm a big fan of the "Best American" series of books. Nowhere can the reader find such great collections of stories and articles in the fields of Sports, Travel, Crime, Mysteries, Short Stories, and so on. "Best American Magazine Writing 2003" was my first experience with this particular catagory, and I immediately noted that it contains entries from both the 2003 Sports and Crime volumes.

Customer Reviews and Description Great book, but be prepared for a lot of religious themes! I purchased two for both sets of Grandmas. They LOVED it! I can't wait to get them back to give to my daughter when she's older.
