Customer Reviews and Description I've recently read both Rush: Chemistry: The Definitive Biography by Jon Collins and Contents Under Pressure by Martin Popoff. Neither of these volumes is really definitive. Together, the two books come close to making up one truly comprehensive overview of the career of Rush. Chemistry lacks any input from the actual band members. Meanwhile, Contents lacks any biographical information, but focuses on the band members' recollections of each album and tour. Also, Collins' obsessive use of the phrase ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description I've spent two decades of my life working at a government archives. I've seen first hand the relief and healing that truth, however awful, can bring to people who've lost loved ones to violence and spent years afterward wondering about details kept locked away in secret files. "It's better if they don't know what happened, because it's just too horrible," sounds like a bureaucratic kindness. But as the mother of one of this book's FLYBOYS says, "...it was not half as terrible as what I had imagined all ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description Without a firm line on Thomas Merton, one may initially wonder why his autobiographical tale possesses more merit than anyone elses. He, like countless others, led a life of profligacy consumed by the demands of self-gratification. He like countless others, afforded the material world far more of himself than it deserved. And, he, like *all* others, did not innately recognize the roots of true happiness. So, how is Thomas Merton different?

Customer Reviews and Description If you are a ZZ Top fan, this book is a must read for you--it shows some of the private side of "The Reverend Billy G" and some of his passions on guitar and car collecting--although not really diving into the bands personna as much as I would have liked, seeing this side of one of Rocks "Major" influences was a very nice read---plus it is a nice bargain at Amazon--I was very pleased to get this book--I first saw this book at a guitar show in Orlando and when I was upset at myself for not buying it at the show ... Customer Reviews and Description This is one of the best, most enjoyable books ever written, in my opinion. It is a combination history (of a now by-gone America), essay (on what it means to be American, on the coming modern world, on racism, on travel, even on what the mind of a dog may be thinking), memoir, history, travelogue and poem. Steinbeck sets off with his dog Charley in a glorified pickup truck to see America in 1960. He explores as many themes along the way as he does landscapes and states. He meets people, he offers opinions, he converses ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description The book itself was quite easy to read, however I was disappointed with the brevity of the section covering Godel's actual proof and its philosophical implications (the proof isn't detailed until half-way through the book, and is discussed quickly).

Customer Reviews and Description I have loved this book over the years for all the reasons stated in the other reviews printed here and purchased it again here recently as a gift. You, too, will love the read. However, my comments are regarding the edition that is being offered here. The book quality from this publisher is exceedingly poor and not worth buying. Both the paper and the print are of the cheapest quality and are not worthy of a book of this excellence. Get the book, but get it from a better publisher.

Customer Reviews and Description Mixed feelings about this one. Foremost though, the book feels rushed. It comes in short, very short and I got it as a gift. My friend said she paid $20 dollars for it, and I feel she got cheated. I flew through the book in less than 3 hours, and it wasn't because it was particularly gripping or rivetting. It was just a short, quick read. I thought, frankly, if she paid $20 dollars for it she paid too much.

Customer Reviews and Description I first read Maus II when I was in fourth or fifth grade, but, of course, I didn't really grasp the true horror of it all at the time. I decided to buy a copy a couple of months ago and see if it lived up to my memory, and I was not disappointed. Now that I'm nine or ten years older and more attuned to the world and its history, it's that much more poignant. The insanity of the time period is hard to comprehend, but even in a cartoon, Spiegelman is able to give us some small idea of the reality.

Customer Reviews and Description This book is a terrific story whether you are a wrestling fan or not. I personally have been an HBK fan since I was a kid so I loved the book. I feel he is by far the greatest wrestler of all time. This book only proves it for sure. From growing up in a military family to his early days in the AWA, the book takes you through his entire life. From his early days in WWE, his constant feud with Bret Hart, his title reigns, his DX days, and his rebirth, this book tells it all. I feel that Shawn probably left some details out but the book still ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description
