Customer Reviews and Description I own a lot of cookbooks and have honestly never purchased a more ridiculous book. Seven ingredients or less, yes - it's easy when you're using canned soup, prepared chili or bottled marinade. The recipes feature a lot of processed ingredients too like non-dairy creamer for potato chowder. And I don't need a slow cooker to make tea - 8 teabags, water, mint extract and splenda - 2 hours in the old slow cooker and voila, you have something that should take ten minutes to make. Convenient - maybe, Easy ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description This may be the best book I read in 2005. The story was engrossing, the characters were well-developed and the actual writing itself was beautiful. So often books will have only 1 or 2 of those criteria, but not all three. The Sixth Lamentation was one of those rare books that I didn't want to end because I was so enjoying the sheer experience of reading it. Some reviewers here have said that the book was too slow and it is slow--don't expect a pot-boiler. This is a book about emotion, contemplation and ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description Mr. Asher misses with this one. The main character "Ian Cormac" is almost a skeletal parody of the super agent. I found almost everything about this character underdeveloped and full of gimmickry. What kept me reading, however, was a well drawn universe of seemingly consistent and amazing technology peppered with unusual and plausible characters. Mr. Asher took the time to create an understandable history for this universe and skillfully shares it with his readers. Unfortunately he spends too little time ... Customer Reviews and Description This is a GOOD BOOK. Not a great book, but a Good Book. It reads very well and is hard to put down. Written as a narrative, it is not an analytical book that is going to hit you with a lot of numbers, facts, theories, etc.. What it lacks in details, it makes up for in it's ability to bring to life an era of American history that is little understood.

Customer Reviews and Description I have been a fan of Mark and his cohorts since they came out with Weird US last year. While I can't speak with for the over volumes this one does a great job of exposing myths, legends, ghost stores, and the generally weird. The beauty of these books is that there is a slight mocking tone while at the same time a tremendous amount of respect for the stories. They don't try to make you believe yet they don't try to discredit. Rather they leave it up to you the reader to make your own choices. But these guys are great ... Customer Reviews and Description Professionals who turn to an encyclopedia on a regular basis have long had to choose between the bulk and sometimes arcane detail of the 30-volume Encyclopedia Britannica and the heft of the one-volume Columbia Encyclopedia. The Concise Columbia Encyclopedia was a redoubtable alternative in the 80s and early 90s, despite entries that could be maddeningly brief, but Columbia has not published an updated volume in years.

Customer Reviews and Description Georgie Jessel would have loved this book. He was endlessly talking of the 'Friar's Club' in his old routines. But the truth is this book has quite a bit of material which comes from other sources. Never mind. There are jokes here for every situation and every occasion. The one- liners are conveniently indexed under subject making it easy to decide to be amused about something and finding a particular subject.

Customer Reviews and Description This book was a gift for my 4 year old. It seems to be a re-written edition which is fine, as it is easier to understand than other versions we have. The illustrations are wonderful and my daughter loves them. However I was a bit disappointed that they could not fill this book with more fables. It seems like sort of a thin book for the price, and some of the most popular fables were omitted from this version. Just an FYI, since Amazon seems to be mixing reviews on here among various versions of books... this review is for ISBN# 0 ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description
