Customer Reviews and Description America was born in the midst of a great revolution sparked by oppressive taxation. There was something about the American character, open, hardworking and honest that rebelled at the very thought of taxes that were not only heavy but unfair. Today the proud American character remains unchanged, but slowly and subtly, surrendering first to this political pressure and then to that, our system of taxation has turned into something foriegn to our nature, something complicated unfair and un-American. ... Customer Reviews and Description After reading this book twice over, I am surprised that Oakland Athletics GM Billy Beane decided to reveal his operations and modus operandi to Michael Lewis. This is especially since the book exposes some unflattering portrayals of other teams, GM Beane's views on how make trades (illuminating how he operationalizes who to trade for, motivations, tactical and strategic intentions, etc.), organizational management style, which will likely encourage future GMs with Billy Beane's ambitions to keep journalists ... Customer Reviews and Description Liked the book - I had read "5 dysfunctions of a Team" first and saw the seeds of 5 dysfunctions in this book. I really like Lencioni's style of using the fable to introduce the material. It is engaging. I pastor a country church in Nebraska, and simply put, a lot of my farmers who are in leadership are intimidated by books and reading in general. Lencioni captures and engages them while introducing them to key concepts they can relate to. Good book as a complement to 5 Dysfunctions.
