Customer Reviews and Description this is the book to start with. it will familiarize you with pieces of augusten burrough's life written almost in short story form. it is so funny that i hated to put it down to go to sleep at night. i gave it to everyone i know for christmas and got rave reviews back. if you thought your life was dysfunctional, let your new best friend enter. he is endearing and impossible all in one. when you've finished this book, have 'running with scissors' ready to begin so you won't miss a beat. Customer Reviews and Description T.E. Lawerence was certainly an extraordinary figure in history based on his achievements with the Arabs during WWI but not all heroes are great writers and Lawrence is NOT a good writer. Do yourself a favor and get a book on Lawrence of Arabia by a professional history writer or although not exactly historically correct (but close enough) watch the fabulous movie "Lawrence of arabia". You will still get the true feeling of what it was like back then and what Lawrence was trying to accomplish. His book will ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description Bert Sugar the dean of Boxing Writers reviews this book for the NY Times and finds it to be outstanding. Jeff Z. Klein in 'Nextbook.com' interviews Douglas Century and gets an inside view of his fundamental conception of Barney Ross. Century's articulate and insightful responses to Klein give the sense that this book is first-class.

Customer Reviews and Description While the book imparts a great deal of information about Ungar's life, the writing is drab and amateurish. I give the authors high marks for research and low marks for style.

Customer Reviews and Description I have not lived on a farm, rather I am a fan of Kent Meyers' writing and have read all of his other books. I was interested to read this memoir of his life and struggles on his family farm growing up. Threads of his experiences were familiar to me because they have flowed into his stories and have enriched them.

Customer Reviews and Description By reading this piece I wanted to find out a little of the culture of the south during this specific time period. Since personally my family was from the south and decided to move to the west. What shocked my the most about this book was the attitude of many of the Caucasian toward the African American society in this particular part in the South. I know that slavery has taken place but never really thought of the effects of it.

Customer Reviews and Description Ann Patchett and Lucy Grealy shared a close and unique friendship, which Ann chronicles in this book. They met in college in 1981 and thereafter kept in close touch whether they were living in the same place or not. Lucy had undergone surgery to remove the cancer that was growing in her lower jaw and then spent large amounts of time in the hospital with chemotherapy, radiation, and reconstructive surgery. The chemo and radiation succeeded in keeping her alive, but the reconstructive surgery was not as successful. She endured taunts from her ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description The problem with reviewing "The Know-It-All" is that you're basically talking about two books: "The Abridged EB, with Snarky Commentary," which is fun for the most part, and "I, A.J. Jacobs" which ... isn't.
