by: J. K. Rowling, Mary GrandPré List Price: $30.96 Amazon.com's Price: $21.05 You Save: $9.91 (32%) Prices subject to change. Customer Reviews and Description I worked at a bookstore. I resisted the Harry Potter series. "After all," I said to myself, "anything that splashes THIS big in popular culture cannot possibly be good." I was smugly pleased with myself, having been the only person I knew who had never read ANY of the "Harry Potter" books. Then book four, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" was due to be released. The store I worked in was going to open at midnight of the day the book was to be released. I worked that night, and ... Read More |

by: Carson McCullers List Price: $12.00 Amazon.com's Price: $7.20 You Save: $4.80 (40%) Prices subject to change. Customer Reviews and Description The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter is one of the best novels I've read in a while. I loved the way Carson McCullers develops the characters in this book. Loneliness and racial injustice are two timeless themes in this novel that McCullers presents so well. McCullers was a white woman writing about how black people were mistreated and felt oppressed in 1940. She was an author truly ahead of her time in that way. All the characters are so memorable in this book. Biff Brannon is a compassionate cafe owner. ... Read More |

Customer Reviews and Description Although the wait for 2002 and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" is going to be a hard one for a lot of people, these two brief but fun books should fill the gap admirably as well as supporting a great cause. Released for the first time (well, to the general Muggle public), here's two of Harry Potter's schoolbooks, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and "Quidditch Through the Ages." Slim and quick reads, these books nevertheless are a great deal of fun. "Quidditch" provides us with a brief ... Read More |

Right away I was pulled in by the professional and artistic cover, the giant blue eye of the dragon Sapphira drawn by the author himself, and when I opened the book, I was not in the least disappointed. |
by: John E. Barrett, Random House, Jim Henson Amazon.com's Price: $3.99 Prices subject to change. Customer Reviews and Description My son was showing some of the signs that he might be ready for his own potty, so I bought this book to introduce the basics. I was really impressed. It explains how babies wear diapers, but when they grow up, they use a potty. It also illustrates important points like not using too much toilet paper and washing your hands afterwards. It's a simple story, so it doesn't go into a lot of detail. There's no discussion of "poo-poo" or "pee-pee." It just uses the generic term "having to go." But I don't think that's a bad thing. This ... Read More |

| 18. Toes, Ears, & Nose! : A Lift-the-Flap Book | |
|
by: Marion Dane Bauer Amazon.com's Price: $5.99 Prices subject to change. Customer Reviews and Description My ten month old loves his Karen Katz books (we have four of them). He loves to lift the flaps as we go, but sometimes he gets excited and tears them right off -- the flaps are paper thin in this book. It seems like we're always repairing them. But that's the only downside...the illustrations are colorful and we always touch his nose when we get to the nose page and his ears, etc and he giggles. They're very cute books. I just wish they were sturdier. |

by: Dr. Seuss List Price: $17.00 Amazon.com's Price: $11.90 You Save: $5.10 (30%) Prices subject to change. Customer Reviews and Description Dr. Seuss is considered to be one of America's best "children's" authors. However, I don't think the good doctor ever intended to write solely for children. Some of his books were clearly written for youngsters, but most of them, I believe, were written for everyone. Nowhere is this more apparent than in OH, THE PLACES YOU'LL GO! The book is often given as a gift to students as they graduate. But the messages the book contains aren't just for the transitional times of our lives. They are things to remember wherever we go, and ... Read More |
