Customer Reviews and Description It was a pleasure to meet this great man through this, his, book. A previous book I reviewed made me curious about how the black slaves in the south lived before their emancipation. This book satisfied my curiosity. More than saying that, I find it is difficult to review this book. Simply put, Mr. Washington tells you about his life and in so doing tells you about himself and the principles he lived by. I feel there are valuable lessons to be learned here. I'll just take two quotes, "...the ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description A very interesting story of a different nature. I couldn't put it down! There were a lot of holes, though, where the author was unable to fill in the blanks due to a security kind of nature, I am sure. This book did give me an insight into the gang culture, and it is not a pretty sight. It also made me see that my job isn't as bad as I sometimes feel it is! To do what this cop did is a true act of incredible bravery. If you like reading true stories that show a different kind of life than most of us can imagine, ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description It was the fame of the formidable crossing of the Delaware River at Valley Forge which catapaulted Washington into the most famous man in the world in 1783 after the final siege of Yorktown in 1781 which ended the British control over the colonies. In December of 2006, the 230th anniversary of the crossing will be observed. I have been there and walked on the banks of the river and seen the primitive buildings. He was a formidable leader who insisted on personal loyalty to the cause from his untrained volunteers.

Customer Reviews and Description The great philosopher, physician and leader is brought vividly to life by Sherwin Nuland, himself a writer-physician. Although this is a relatively brief book, it touches on all the points of Maimonides's life with authority and clarity. Nuland positions his subject's writings within the issues of his time and ours. With a well-annotated bibliography this is a fine entry into a fascinating life.

Customer Reviews and Description If you liked this book, then read "For Love Of Pete!" The Story of the Boy Who Played the Taps on Iwo Jima By Penelope Dyan. Both books are great tribute to our military men. There is a list of the known dead of Iwo Jima at the end of the Dyan book.

Customer Reviews and Description It's a good read but I agree with other reviewers that parts of Jackson's life feels rushed. The author does a good job showing readers who may not be too familiar with Jackson how his early life on the frontier shaped his views toward the British and indians.

Customer Reviews and Description This poetry is very heartfelt, and very real. I truly related to the words that he wrote. The poetry is angry, sometimes loving, sometimes heartbreaking. The man speaks of wanting a real love. He was uncertain, vulnerable, and completely honest. There are also moment of great rage, and a desire for equality. The thoughts are personal, and to me understandable. I forget the name of the poem, but in it a girl has told him she would love him forever, and the lines that follow simply keep asking, but will you love me tomorrow. He speaks of wanting assurance, ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description I bought this book in the Bangkok airport in anticipation of the 20-hour flight back home. It was so mesmerizing that I read the entire thing cover to cover on the plane. I had a vague grasp of Genghis Khan before I started reading, but I had no idea about all of the cultural and social reforms that he instated throughout his conquered regions. Like most other people, I thought he was merely a savage who liked to kill people and wanted to rule the world. But through this book, I've come to see things very differently.
