Customer Reviews and Description Excellent, excellent presentation of common pitfalls in oil painting. While I am not a fan of most of Gregg's work, he is a brilliant artist, and has a lot to share. I own a lot of art books, and this is one I keep going back to.

Customer Reviews and Description "Gregarious, family grouped, long-lived, diurnal, vocally and visually astute, and reliant on memory and individual recognition." Yes, that might be a biological description of us humans, but it's a description from _In the Company of Crows and Ravens_ (Yale University Press) by John M. Marzluff and Tony Angell. We share those traits with the birds that are the subject of this fine book, mostly because we, like they, have big brains and use them. Dolphins and humans have bigger brain-to-body ratios, ... Customer Reviews and Description I do believe I have become a true fan of the old Greek classics (and I am inspired to seek out classic Greek plays). "Antigone" is an excellent read, entertaining, and gives a detailed account into the lives and personalities of the daughters of Oedipus, expecially Antigone. Antigone, as portrayed in "Oedipus Rex" is a child who weeps for her parents, her brothers, and her country after the unfolding of tragic events. In "Antigone" she's up close and personal as a young woman brave and daring. She is ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description I was thrilled to find this book. I homeschool my children and wanted something simple that would teach them to draw more realistically. I've looked for years and finally found this awesome book!!! and interestingly enough it has helped me, in more than just art! It gave me the feeling that if I can draw (when I never thought I could!!!) what else can I do? I've always wanted to write...And now I have the courage to try... This book has unleashed a creative side of me that has been bottled up somewhere! (the ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description Good pictures and layout. This book does give some good ideas, still, like many home picture books, it's a great photo portfolio and not entirely practical for the ordinary person. Also, lack of room/house plans makes it difficult to see how everything works and makes it difficult to copy a particular layout.

Customer Reviews and Description Anyone entering into the field of graphic design, either coming out of school or embarking on a career solo, should read this book. It doesn't mess with what the best typefaces are, or any software tricks. Instead, it lets you in on how designers think, and how to be successful in your endeavors. A foreward written by Sagmeister himself, along with interviews with other "rock star" designers, make this book simply amazing.

Customer Reviews and Description Why is it that in all of these film books there is such a huge focus on storyboards? That's what a third of this book covers. I should point out that many directors, including the two greatest directors of all time, Elia Kazan and Stanley Kubrick, as well as Woody Allen, Bernardo Bertolluci, Sydney Pollack, and many more do NOT storyboard their shots. Even Welles, later in his career, admitted to making up his mind on the set, and Hitchcock, famously known for storyboards, only storyboarded the BIG shots, not the entire ...
