Customer Reviews and Description I read Journal of a Solitude shortly after giving birth to my first child. I was alone in a new neighborhood with few family and friends around me and felt completely estranged from my former life as a professional woman working in New York city. May Sarton's story - shared in such a real and heartfelt way - has always stayed with me. Where are the May Sarton's in today's world? She was an extraordinary woman who was able to connect with a broad audience of readers, through the authentic sharing ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description If you like fiction, Chilton's book is for you. It is well written and has lots of "local color" providing excellent descriptions of what life was like in 1st Century Palestine. I'd give it 4+ stars as a novel.

Customer Reviews and Description Wallace Neff is one of the quentisential California residential architects, he was a master of the Spanish Colonial, which is pure California. Neff is to Spanish Colonial what Paul Williams was to California Regency. This book is just perfect, the images are first rate and the text is highly informative and though scholarly it's also accessable. If you have any interest in this subject or just appreciate wonderful books then I believe you will be pleased, if you like me love architecture and appreciate great architects ... Customer Reviews and Description I was late to Wil's blog, but once I found it I really enjoyed it. As an outgrowth of that interest, I bought this book. I loved it and ended up reading it in about 2 days. Simply put, it gave me a lot to think about. Sure, I laughed - Wil has what appears to me to be a natural gift for story-telling - but more than the laughs , it made me think about what defines success. I hope he writes more. I know I am going to buy more of his work. And note to "Hollywood" ... you are missing out on this guy and it's your loss (and our's). ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description I stumbled across this book from an article in Townhall.com called "Muscular Philanthropy: Tough Love & The John M. Olin Foundation" [...] and I was intrigued. The article outlined the reasons behind the success of the Olin Foundation even though the Leftie foundations outgun everyon on the Right by 10 to 1. The book doesn't organize the material in the same way the article did, but it give a deeper understanding of some of the day to day decision making at the Olin Foundation. It is obvious the whole place functioned as an ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description Every once in a while we go up to Ely, MN, and spend a day or so dogsledding. So, prior to this year's trip, I bought a few books on the Iditarod and mushing in general.

Customer Reviews and Description My mother is one of several people I know who eschews all of the Christian Living type of books that dominate the Christian publishing industry. Apart from her Bible (the most beat-up, ink-covered, personalized Bible you'll ever see) and a few commentaries, she reads only biographies. She feels that by reading about the lives of great Christians of the past, she will learn far more than what most of the Christian Living books can teach her. She may just be right.

Customer Reviews and Description The American Auto Factory is a historical and sociological look at the development and changes in technology which directly impacted both workers and management told through vivid pictures and concise text. Or so I believed. What was actually there was only partial to my perception. Beyond the vivid and captivating pictures was a very dull and unexciting narrative of the history of the American auto industry. Not that the history itself is uninteresting, rather, it has been told countless times before in numerous books in more detail then ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description This is the third book I've read on terrorism and was the best by far. Not only does it take the reader through the important points of bin Laden's life and the historical events that surround them, but the author also analyzes the larger context within world politics. I particularly enjoyed the analysis of the strategic importance of Stinger missiles in the past and the future.
