Customer Reviews and Description If you are in your sixties, seventies, or beyond - or even if you are a precocious fifty-year-old, there is much to be had in this ultimately enigmatic series of essays by feminist, scholar, activist and mystery hound Carolyn Heilbrun. Thoughtful, introspective, funny and only occasionally cantankerous, Heilbrun strikes many a familiar chord in examining the oddly satisfying process of aging, if not gracefully, at least with some unexpected zest.

Customer Reviews and Description I liked how there was a lot of background information given before the action started. It helped keep the reader in the perspective of the Marines. It did mean that readers, who aren't inclined to know anything about the actual Marines involved, had to wade through a bunch of detail. However, that detail is what made the book good. The authors retold the story of that night very well.

Customer Reviews and Description This is a well written and enlightening biography of the great 18th century British physician-scientist John Hunter. Moore has done a real service by bringing Hunter before the reading public. Known largely to historians of medicine as an important figure in the history of surgery, Moore shows Hunter to be definitely that and much more. Hunter is also a remarkable personal story. An expatriate Scot and son of impoverished parents, largely uninterested in formal education as a youth, Hunter became the outstanding ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description I found the book very moving but more importantly I found it educational. As parents we want to protect our children from being hurt physically, emotionally and mentally. I found and have to agree with the way her parents acted, although it was out of love it only did more damage in the long run. In raising a daughter I have always had the attitude that I must prepare her for the world she will someday have to enter and survive in. It is my duty to help her learn those survival skills. Although every parent wants to ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description My husband and I really enjoyed this book. We are planning on sharing it with family and friends as well. It was very easy to relate it. We have had very similiar experiences and emotions in our journey with autism.

Customer Reviews and Description This book is well written but is easier to read if you understand a little bit about DNA and its double helix structure. Someone who knows nothing about DNA's structure may feel a little frustrated in parts. The author writes so well that I have to say the book was a page-turner - it is a little unfortunate that a few of the past reviews told some of the "surprises in the plot" (Reviewers please don't tell the less known facts and ruin it for the rest of us!)

Customer Reviews and Description Some of the experiences described were surprising. I didn't realize what awkward and terrible things Gene Wilder went through as a young man. Very witty and raw....enjoyed the book.

Customer Reviews and Description I found Nevada's book to be honest, well written, with a subtle sense of humor so needed in works dealing with religion and enlightenment. One of my favorite lines: "... I would occasionally run across someone who seemed to truly know God, and I realized that religion, like a bad toupee or a face-lift gone sour, is only obvious when it's done badly." This book did not do well commercially because honest well-written books dealing with things that really matter don't sell. But this book is very good, very important. It helped me on my return journey to God.
