Customer Reviews and Description The book is written by Shostak a woman, about Nisa also a woman, and that makes it more appealing because it deals with a lot of women issues. I know that Marjorie Shostak is now dead and Nisa is dead too. When you live with the author and the person she is writing about all this time it suddenly becomes a part of your life and you begin to mourn their death. I really admire Nisa and all these !Kung women and how courageous they live but I also know they don't live according to this book anymore. ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description When I started reading this book I hoped it would be about centenarians and offer clues into their miraculous longevity, but instead the author's digressions are almost as frustrating as the wandering minds of some of these living wonders. Half way through the book and we realized much of the book is about the author, her marriage, and even a visit to her psychotherapist. Many paragraphs are like reading an on-the-road travelogue as the author describes scenery and environs to and from her interviews. Do ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description The light-hearted descriptions of the contributors makes this an entertaining read- and more interestingly contributor Shauna Marsh's popular online [...] reveal the simultaneously secretive and extroverted dual-identity of a blogger for whom weight loss is both a public and private journey. Like her blogs, her contribution to this book is filled with anecdotes full of personal triumphs and humorous mishaps but overall I found the authors of book more self-obsessed than inspirational.

Customer Reviews and Description John Colapinto summarizes the pain of this young man's life and the use that Dr. Money made of him and his brother to prove Dr. Money's pet theories. In fact, David's life proved, or seemed to prove, the very opposite of what Dr. Money was saying.

Customer Reviews and Description The Reawakening opens in January 1945, when author Primo Levi is released from a Nazi concnetration camp by Russian troops. His health almost ruined, suffering from unbearable knowledge of the crimes committed in the camps, Levi re-enters the world to find that it has been turned upside down by the war. Improbably - he explains in an afterword that it is not in his nature to hate - he finds in himself a capacity to see the world afresh, almost as a child would.

Customer Reviews and Description This is one of the best books I have ever read in any genre. I've always liked Jimmy Carter as a human being, and now I know what made this intelligent, unassuming, hardworking, humorous, and compassionate public figure the man he is. And in addition to that, the book gives a wonderfully rich view of rural life earlier in the 20th century. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Customer Reviews and Description The Aquariums of Pyongyang was one of the most difficult books I've ever read. Difficult in the way that it describes, first hand, the conditions of daily life in the North, not to mention the gulag.

Customer Reviews and Description This is a good, if standard, political and personal biography. You get the facts of Lincoln's life with some flavor of the kind of person he was, such as the fact that he kept a disorganized office including a box that was labelled "if you can't find it anywhere else, it must be here". It also covers the surface of his wartime decisions competently.
