Customer Reviews and Description This book is most definitely required reading for divers at any level, but especially those who dive wrecks. It's been said that the Andrea Doria is the Mt. Everest for divers in terms of sheer difficulty and, based on the narratives in this book, I'm inclined to agree.

Customer Reviews and Description A bit like pulling teeth, this book starts with Herzog writing he is a somewhat unwilling participant in the process. A few parts her I have read recounted other places, but there is more than enough on the making of individual fiilms. A good, concise book.

Customer Reviews and Description The Great Communicator has done it again! "An American Life" takes the reader from his birth in Tampico, Illinois to the return to California with mission accomplished. Ronald Reagan earned the moniker "The Great Communicator" for his ability to reach an audience. "An American Life" proves that he could do it in ink too. His writing is direct, easy to follow and engaging. The theme of the book is the optimistic world view of the Reagan we knew. There is little introspection. Reagan knew what he believed ... Customer Reviews and Description Six Feet Under will make any family's response to death appear normal. It offers the reader the opportunity to experience the same event from the family's varying perspectives. Based on the drama series that takes a darkly comical look at members of a dysfunctional Pasadena family that runs an independent funeral home. With the prodigal elder son (Peter Krause) returning home for the holidays to shattering news, the family must learn to deal with a death of their own, while figuring out how to go ahead with the ... Customer Reviews and Description As a non-specialist who has read about a dozen books in this genre, I would like to give a hearty recommendation to this book as the ideal introduction to historical scholarship on Jesus. It is a model of methodological care and precision. At 281 pages of text, the book can be read without a vast time investment. What I like best about it is that, unlike so many books in this field, it contains relatively little idle speculation. There are a few exceptions to this, but generally Sanders sticks to the hard evidence. ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description I've enjoyed every one of the Penguin Lives books that I've picked up so far. History isn't my primary field of study, so I've not the time to delve into the 1000 page tomes. The series, thus, sort of fills in a gap. It allows a bit of an entrance into these important lives for casual readers like myself.

Customer Reviews and Description As I write this, a winter storm assails Dakota. Cold air conspires with warm, spawning snow. Below-zero (Fahrenheit) weather will follow. The wood stove offloads the burden from the utility company. Stew meat and veggies simmer in the crockpot. I will eat them before first light.

Customer Reviews and Description This book is pulp. I was bored a quarter of the way into it... I finished the book, but only because I was on a plane and it was this book or the inflight magazine. Other reviewers have pointed out lots of deficiencies, but anyway... having recently traveled to Acadia Park, I was curious to hear the take on that area from someone who lived there. How brutal are the winters? Very, I'd imagine, but you'd never know from reading this 200-page, large print book. The author comes off as a b**ch. There's a lighthouse on her island, which they turned ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description I liked the book, got weary of the more "spiritual" portions, comparing his adventure into solitude with Merton's. Some of it I had to read twice just to get what he was talking about. I guess you would say it is "deep stuff." I would've enjoyed the book more if it was written simply about his trip to the mountain. I enjoyed reading about his buying the cabin and all the work it took to fix it, and the people he met. He wrote a lot about his family and portions of his life. I would rather read about life on the mountain with his new cabin, his dogs, ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description
