Customer Reviews and Description "A remainder of one" is a good introduction to division. Second graders enjoyed the story yet the concept of division was too advanced for them. Third graders were intrigued by the explanation of division through out the book. The ants lining up row after row, making all rows even, was a great visual tool for third graders to understand the idea of division and remainders. Overall a good book to read- it keeps the students intrigued and keeps them thinking.

Customer Reviews and Description I wasn't certain what to expect when I got this book. I was a bit concerned that since it was written about experiences in the 1960's that it would feel a bit dated. Although the 1960's view of the future of East Africa's peoples and wildlife is not entirely accurate, I am finding the book to be an excellent way to prepare for a trip to Tanzania--for someone wanting a combination of background on the peoples, landscape and wildlife. Matthiessen's usual subdued, to me, dry style seems leavened a bit ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description I'm use to my children's jumbo coloring books, with cute, simple drawings and not the best quality pages or covers. This book is a step above the average coloring book. I like the added feature of the small images that show the child the "appropriate" colors. I know my eight-year-old will love this book, and I plan to buy her the other horse coloring books by Dover.

Customer Reviews and Description "Gorillas In The Mist" is more than just a scientific journal, it is a window into the world of nature itself. Dian Fossey paints a clear picture of her beloved mountain gorillas and brings forth her passion, through words, to save them from extinction. She went against the odds and changed the way we think about gorillas. She is a heroine in my eyes.

Customer Reviews and Description Katya Arnold's opening words in this book certainly get your attention. "I teach in two schools," she tells us, "One is in the city. The other is in the jungle. Some of my students have hands. Others have trunks." That is because, as the title indicates, some of Arnold's students are elephants. Born in Moscow, Arnold has written and illustrated books for children such as "Baba Yaga: A Russian Folktale" and "Me Too!: Two Small Stories About Small Animals." She teaches art to children at Saint Ann's ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description There's an H.G. Wells story (in Bloom's anthology for children) called "The Remarkable Case of Davidson's Eyes"; the title character is struck by lightning and undergoes a visual hallucination in which he believes he sees a desolate island, or as he puts it, "Dark sea and sunrise! And yet I'm sitting on a sofa in old Boyce's room!...God help me!" I didn't think much of the story at the time I read it, but now, on reading "The Outermost House," I find it a remarkably excellent and relevant critique of American ... Customer Reviews and Description What has particularly excited me is the opening chapter on "Cyberdrama"... it discusses approaches to story, game play and engagement in terms that echo what we are trying to achieve in Drama education. Throughout the book (and this is from preliminary browsing) there are discussions about narrative and simulation and disticntions being drawn bewteen perceptual positions of players ... the writers that have contributed to this book have a very clear sense of the notion of "role" and I am starting to think that this book ...
