Customer Reviews and Description Learning all the history Frank Zappa and the Mothers went through was outstanding. The last chapter got a little preachy, but I never stopped laughing throughout the entire book. I'd think anyone that wants to know not only the "how" it was done, but some of the experiences along the way, are priceless to hear about.

Customer Reviews and Description My girlfriend dared me to read this book. It literally knocked the wind out of me. It's beyond excellent, it's sorely needed in the black community. Tavis Smiley, Farrakhan and Eric Dyson should take pointers from Boof on black issues. My favorite was Boof's essay "The Authentic Black Male", but I'm reading the whole book again this weekend. I warn potential customers that there's an extraordinary amount of sex and violence, but not out of context. This is similar to Malcolm X's autobiography I ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description After reading the reviews of others, I want to note that I pick up this book roughly once a year, especially to read its summary, which Sue Bender calls a "ninepatch." It captures what she learned from the Amish - lessons that remind me of Wendell Berry's work, which also comments on what might be called agrarian values. The parts of the book that describe her visits to the Amish are clear and well written. The parts that describe her efforts to absorb what she learned may strike some readers as silly. They ... Customer Reviews and Description Shortly after beginning his culinary apprenticeship, Bernard Loiseau declared his intention of becoming a Michelin three star restaurauteur. By dint of relentless effort and unusual talent, he attained that much coveted goal just after his fortieth birthday, in 1991. For more than a decade, he continued to share that lofty height with fewer than twenty other chefs in all of France. Yet it would all end tragically with his suicide in early 2003.

Customer Reviews and Description W.E.B. DuBois was born 2 years after slavery was abolished, and died two years before the wide ranging civil rights acts of 1965 were enacted. During this century, America was transformed from a largely rural nation whose economy depended on agricultural production (not the least of which was the cotton grown in the south by slaves) to an urban nation with the world's largest economy, built on industrial production. Throughout most of this transformation, DuBois was the loudest and clearest voice proclaiming the injustices ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description Vasari's classic text is well written (translated, I guess I should say) but extremely tiresome. For nearly every artist he simply lists their works, and rarely with more analysis than by describing them as "life-like" or "beautiful." For example, here is what he says about Titian's Assumption of the Virgin in Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, Venice, one of his most famous and celebrated paintings: "He did a panel for the main altar containing Our Lady ascending into heaven, with the twelve apostles standing below her and watching ... Customer Reviews and Description I find the events surrounding Ben's development tragic. With a psychiatrist father and nurse mother, they ignored SIGNIFICANT signs. Toe walking, unintelligable speech at THREE, severe separation anxiety, textural issues with food, sensory overload. This book makes the case for effective early intervention, being an effective advocate for your child (stop denying and placing blame on the husband) and finding the right resources. Newsflash: APD is NOT new and the lack of evaluators and educators who were unfamiliar with this learning disability ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description
