Customer Reviews and Description Homes That Heal is enjoyable to read and easy to understand. This wonderful book gives a wealth of information about the wide range of toxins that we are subjected to in our own homes. Rather than leaving the reader feeling helpless and hopeless at the overwhelming prospect of ridding the home environment of these hazardous conditions, Athena empowers the reader with tips and suggestions that can be employed immediately as well as providing long-term solutions. I highly recommend this book.

Customer Reviews and Description I purchased this book for my mother, who is in her 70s. She recently started birding so this was her first field guide-easy to read, large pictures make identification very easy for the beginning birder of any age.

Customer Reviews and Description More than any book, this argues for experiencing nature and preserving wilderness. Thoreau himself saw that fewer passenger pigeons were visiting and even then was aware of threats. Though first spoken in lectures on 1851, and 1856-1857, and published in June 1862 Atlantic Monthly, a month after his death, it still speak to us in the 21st century. For example ".. what would become of us, if we walked only in a garden or a mall?", . "In wilderness is the preservation of the world." , "To preserve wild animals implies ... Customer Reviews and Description Largely a collection of personal anecdotes culled from numerous cruises which disappointed the author. After awhile, you get the sense that he is a "professional griper" angling for freebies from the cruise line. Much of his complaining is petty. However, by disregarding the whines and pouts, you can still glean interesting details about the cruise industry which, of course, the industry prefers to keep under its collective hat. Not the best book out there for cruise info.

Customer Reviews and Description I wasn't certain what to expect when I got this book. I was a bit concerned that since it was written about experiences in the 1960's that it would feel a bit dated. Although the 1960's view of the future of East Africa's peoples and wildlife is not entirely accurate, I am finding the book to be an excellent way to prepare for a trip to Tanzania--for someone wanting a combination of background on the peoples, landscape and wildlife. Matthiessen's usual subdued, to me, dry style seems leavened a bit by his awe. And the account of ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description I was fortunate enough to volunteer my time twice helping to take care of the rescued animals after hurricane Katrina.I volunteered thru Bestfriends in Mississippi. It was probably the most satisfying work I've ever done. When I got home I found out about this book and couldn't wait to read it. I cried, I laughed I didn't want to put it down and i didn't want it to end. It made me more determined then ever to visit the sancuary in Utah as soon as I can.It explains how the animal sancuary first got started and all the ups and downs ... Customer Reviews and Description There's really not much to say about the content of the book that others haven't covered just as well. It's an extremely interesting, unorthodox, and provocative idea that may hold promise in cracking some tough nuts in developmental biology, and as an evolutionary biologist I respect Sheldrake's work and his willingness to explore non-mainstream concepts. However, he makes it clear, and I want to emphasize, that what he's putting forth here is a hypothesis, NOT a theory in the 'philosophy of science' sense. A hypothesis is a possible ... Customer Reviews and Description This book is by far the greatest source for surf training avaliable. Living on the beach or miles away, its exercises will put you in fit for all year long. Furthermore, it helped me out to avoid common surfing injuries, such as sore back. The cardio-workout section is the chapter that every surfer should know and do. Buy this book if your are looking for a complete guide for surf conditioning.

Customer Reviews and Description Lennard Bickel's "Mawson's Will" is the story of Australian geologist Douglas Mawson's 1911-1912 Expedition to Antarctica, and more particularly, his desparate struggle to return alone from a sledging expedition gone badly.
