Customer Reviews and Description No, I didn't like Blood Canticle. I haven't really liked any of Anne Rice's books since Merrick. As someone who loves Rice's earlier vampire books, I can understand the vehemence of those reviewers who have vented their disappointment in their reviews. Yes I have read Rice's response, and it was definately a bit arrogant and ill-advised. But the retaliation has been a bit much. I believe that when an author publishes a book that it becomes part of the public forum - people have a right to comment ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description This is a well-written,thought out plan for ending war and establishing peace in the 21st century. However, as much as the author pleads for us to be optimistic, I am a pessimist when dealing with terrorist and terrorist-harboring countries, they are the ulitmate "disconnected". As much as I would like several of his suggestions in the last chapter for future peace to happen, I would contend most of them will not. It is true the "rule sets", as he calls them, have changed since 9/11, but it is also ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description

Customer Reviews and Description You keep wondering that through the whole book? Isn't that what the author is trying to achieve. I listened to the audio and it had the same effect on me. This story is pulled together exceptionally well, the characters area excellent and the storyline makes you wonder what exactly Judd knew. The ending is great. I can see this being made into a movie. I will make Kate Wilhelm a must to read.

Customer Reviews and Description Just when you think that all of the truly intriguing plot lines have been taken, along comes Peter Robinson. "Strange Affair" left me a little breathless and full of admiration for Robinson's ability to weave a complex story around the brittle and edgy Chief Inspector Alan Banks and his sometimes love interest Detective Inspector Annie Cabbot. In reading fiction, I get really tired of babysitting flawed characters who are written with the expressed desire to add quirkiness, but Banks and Cabbot are not gratuitously ... Customer Reviews and Description I can't believe no one has reviewed the audio book of Torpedo Juice. The more I listen to audio books, the more I realize their potential superiority to reading a book with one's eyes. Whereas, as a reader, I approach a book cold (especially since this is the first and only one in the Serge series I have read), a great reader has read the book, knows where it is going, understands the motivations, and brings an entire other performance layer to the work. George Wilson, who reads this book, is such a reader.

Customer Reviews and Description I was so intrigued by this book that my family is planning our summer vacation in Victoria. I don't know what we'll find there, but I want to see Emily Carr's home, work, and maybe a totem pole or two. Although knowing how she felt about the totem poles, I'm sure I'll have a stab of regret at seeing them out of their natural environment. I enjoyed the book, but I don't know if my reading circle would be as enthralled as I was. I've kept it to myself because it touched me in a way that I don't think everyone would understand.

Customer Reviews and Description She went through hell. Yes! She showed tremendous courage. Yes! But in the telling of this book the scenes, characters, events, timeline and happenings are jumbled up in a childlike rendition of a most difficult life in captivity. This book reminded me of a 5th graders reading assignment. Malika's focus is not so much more than "am I still pretty" while in her various jails. Some of the stoty makes no sense ( the hidden radio hookup between cells) along with many other events that are difficult to believe.

Customer Reviews and Description A candid, insider's view of the fascinating woman-centered Moso culture of southwest China. Yang Erche Namu is a strong-willed, ambitious girl who wants to leave her village and make it in the outside universe. Yet her descriptions of Moso traditions, especially of her initiation into womanhood, show a culture of incredible beauty.
