Customer Reviews and Description This is an engrossing tale which gives wonderful insight into the character of one of our greatest and most popular Presidents who when sternly warned that he was at high risk for not returning alive from his trip down the River of Doubt wrote, "Tell Osburn I have already lived and enjoyed as much of life as any nine other men I know; I have had my full share, and if it is necessary for me to leave my bones in South America, I am quite ready to do so."

Customer Reviews and Description We take so many elements of our modern lifestyle for granted that it is nearly impossible to imagine what life would be like without any one of them--let alone *all* of them. Richard Proenneke not only had this vision, but was bold enough to drop everything and live the life. Similarly, living in direct contact with a very hostile environment is difficult to imagine. Surviving in that environement--alone--for nearly 40 years is nigh on impossible to comprehend.

Customer Reviews and Description While i agree with other reviewers that this book didn't present all the cities/towns that were affected, hurricane katrina was just so massive that i don't think any one book would be able to do it justice. Having said that, this book does attempt to give an overview of the destruction that occured in MS/LA..particularly new orleans.

Customer Reviews and Description This is a well written and well researched book by Mathew Simmons, an expert on the oil business including Middle East oil supplies. The book is a bit technical and is mostly solid information on oil extraction, the oil fields of Saudi Arabia, along with a number of projections. The best comparison that I can make is with a university reference book, but not a text book: it is a well written reference book with a very short introduction of Saudi history.

Customer Reviews and Description Just finished this great book. It is well worth the read for anyone wishing to learn more about American's great midlands, the pioneers who ventured onto the plains, and the land that responded in a loud roar.

Customer Reviews and Description My wife bought me this book recently knowing that I am a big Lance fan and secondly that I am an avid cyclist. I was surprised and delighted to read such a thoughtful and intense read about the world of professional cycling. It not only covers Lance's 2004 Tour, but the world of present day cycling: the good, the bad and the ugly. I am convinced more than ever that professional cyclists are the toughest athletes in the world and this book makes this even more evident. I've read both of Lance's books (liked them both), but the gritty ... Read MoreRead Reviews and Description
