Jeff copied his review from a girl who reviewed it on Barnes and Noble. Jeff it really is getting tiring, aren't you ready to give this up? I've reported this to amazon. In "The Year of Magical Thinking," Joan Didion wrote about how she lost her husband, John, unexpectedly, while her only daughter, Quintana was hospitalized. She did not even have time to mourn for his death as Quintana was in a critical condition, fighting for her life. The rest of the book dealt primarily with Didion accepting her husband's death as well as trying to move on.

Rating: - Joan Didion knows how to write.
It is undeniable that Joan Didion knows how to write. She brings us in with her prose and shares with us her life as it suddenly 'changes in an instant'. The book is sad and depressing and unfulfilling. The story is not unique thus for people who have had the experience, I could understand the hook. Her words tell how one must feel but her anticdotes are to particular to her.I don't know her friends and she doesn't tell me enough about anyone to really get to know them, even her husband who she misses ...
