The Historian is an interesting read, not only because of the subject matter (for which we all tend to fall), but for the incredibly deep context of the story. The research into the historical background and the greater understanding of the time is what made this interesting to me. - A really good story
A good, well-written story. I have found myself reading books lately, even favorite authors, wanting to yell, "...just get on with it already!" as a story dragged along. While this book was lengthy, the story was well-spun and left me turning the pages in anticipation instead of impatience. I suprisingly enjoyed the abundance of history and the place descriptions were spectacularly vivid. (I looked up after a long period of reading suprised to find I was not in Istanbul.)

- Hauntingly beautiful and well worth reading
The Historian is a beautifully written and meticulously researched novel which follows numerous attempts to track down the infamous and elusive Dracula. While Kostova's vivid descriptions of the Eastern European countryside can border on long-winded, the rest of the novel is deeply engrossing and easily captures and holds the reader's interest.
