by: Audrey Niffenegger Average Rating: ![]() Rating: - wasted a weekend on this...If you like really trite, shallow romance novels with underdeveloped characters and pointless cultural references added by the author in an illusion of being educated and/or hip you'll love this book. Me, not so much. Rating: - Trite (and Creepy) Romance I found the relationship between Henry and young Clare creepily close to pedophilia. He appears naked to her, beginning when she is six years old and continuing through her childhood and adolescence. This is their little secret and it warps Clare's childhood and teenage relationships. She has no interest in boyfriends and can't be honest with other girls due to her secret. Henry lusts for her long before they have sex on her eighteenth birthday (when he is forty-one). As a long time reader of fiction, this back story was fresh and not some recycled theme. While time travel is always a stretch, this was approached in a plausible and quite believable manner. The lead female character grew up before our eyes, her devotion and unending love for the male lead being the counter balance to the entire story. In short I loved the book, and have sent it on to friends.
