You go , girl
Its hard to even review this book, because its such a weird blend of neuroscience, backstabbing politics, and personal evolvement all wrapped up in one. But it makes a sort of perfect sense for Candace.
As a more medically based person beginning to cross over to the healing fields (craniosacral therapy in my case), I was beginning to feel 'energy' and 'heat' in my hands and getting sort of freaked out about it. Candace and her ligands gave me the in depth rationale for why there's a deep scientific explanation for healing, and a mind-body connection. So I'm listening to my hands these days.
This rationale makes her immensely popular with the holistic folks, such as Deepra, as she provides some hard evidence to back up their 'soft' treatments. Her credentials are immpecible ...

You really ought to read this book.
When I was first recommended this book, the title made me very uncomfortable - too New Age for me. I thought it would be another book that would claim to find the bridge between mind and body, to point some unscientific pseudofacts that we should all be aware of. However, after the third recommendation I bought the book and delved into it.
Dr Candace Pert is a neuroscientist and she speaks biology, which is a recognised territory for me, since my wife is a scientist as well.
At the beginning of her book (which is, more than anything, a novel, a very good novel and very well written) Candace unfolds her scientific history and experience, mainly from a biological point of view but also from an autobiographical one. I was excited to enter her lab, when she invited me in, with ...

It is more an autobiography then anything else
This book came highly recommended. I am a scientist but not a biologist. I found the first couple of chapters rather difficult to comprehend since I had absolutely no background in molecular-biology. Because I like a great challenge, I decided to stick with the book and see if I could learn the technical lingo; after several pages into the book, and additional anatomy textbooks, I was able to comprehend what was going on and started to make sense of all the detailed research Dr. Pert was talking about. The downside of this book is that after 160 pages Dr. Pert is still talking about herself, her-misfortune and the roughness of her life being a woman working in a male dominated environment. There is nothing concrete on how one should apply or work with emotions to prevent illnesses until the very end ...
