Average Rating: 4.00 out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Some great work, some disappointments
Endless Nights is, overall, a solid presentation of these always engaging characters. The Destiny story didn't seem "tacked on" to me, but it could have been--should have been--a little longer. Also, the Delirium piece was not as engaging as perhaps the creators imagined it to be, even though Sienkewicz's art is top-notch.

One concern I had: Why does Dream play so small a role in his own story? And Death, too? I read Sandman for these two characters, primarily. Seeing them so rarely bothered me a little.

I really loved the Desire story, and was quite intrigued by Destruction's story. The "15 Portraits of Despair" is an interesting form, and the content matched it perfectly. Gaiman here shows he can write poems, too. Don't tell me comics can't be poems, either.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good, but not the best of The Sandman
I enjoyed this book a great deal, especially the stories for Death, Dream, and Desire. In particular, I liked how the story for Dream explained the animosity between Dream and Desire. However, this book doesn't live up to the standard set by Fables and Reflections and Worlds' End. I would have liked to have seen a story about how and why Delight became Delirium, the transition between the old Despair and the newer one, and most of all a true story featuring Destiny, not just a reiteration of who he is and what he does. I thought Destruction's story was intriguing, but overall it felt more like an outline for an epic scifi/fantasy novel rather than a short story. I know Gaiman likes to let some mysteries remain, but I don't think the questions raised in this story should be left that way - there ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - An Artist's Tribute
This fascinating, newest work of Gaiman's is great for newcomers to Sandman and die-hard Sandman fans alike.

For the followers of Sandman, this offers insight into the characters that they have come to know, love, and/or (in the case of Desire, for me) despise. This is especially true in the tale of Dream's, which takes us farther back than we have ever been, chronilogically speaking, for any of the Sandman works. This takes us back to a time when the Endless were young, Desire was Morpheous' favorite sibling, and Death was clinically depressed. My, how time changes things!

From Death's patient vigal outside a infinately looping day to Delirium's strange collapse into herself (is she changing again? And is that white figure in the shadows Daniel?), these stories are more complex ... Read More
